Most supermarkets in town close around 22:00hr and afterwards you’re basically doomed to failure in case you’re looking for anything decent to drink or eat. It’s all overpriced snacks and beer cans from there. Not if you’re lucky to find yourself in the area around Westerpark. There’s a cute little supermarket tucked away on the Wittenkade, an anonymous canal, and it’s open till midnight. They do all kinds of affordable quality stuff. Beer is available in abundance and ranges from cheap canned pilsener to some fine craft beers. So if you want to lounge aroud the park a little longer into the evening – with your hand wrapped around a cold beer of course – but don’t feel like paying 2 euro for a can of Heineken this is your spot.
