Homeland is the brewing branch of the pension and restaurant that carry the same name. The aims of the owners are modest in scale. They bought a 1000 litre brewing installation to provide the pension with unique beers.
Brew master Erik Spratte got plenty of time and freedom to develop the first beers of the Homeland brand. The accessible pale ale was an obvious choice for refreshment at the pension bar. But Erik distinguished himself with the spelt beer he developed. As the pale ale, it is a very drinkable brew to enjoy at the waterside. The spelt endows it with a distinctive kind of softness.
For those who look for a beer instead of a glass of wine at the Homeland restaurant, Erik brewed a tripel in collaboration with the chef. They consider it the perfect option to go with basically any dish they serve.
The Homeland pension is not only recommended for the beer produced there, if you step inside you will feel like you stepped into an East-German summer holiday in 1983. The next bingo game is only minutes away and embroidered tablecloths are still the latest fad and they manage to pull it off. Plus, it is based at the heart of what used to be marine territory for centuries but is now opened for the public at large. The waterside terrace offers you a view on Amsterdams historical skyline and a huge colonial era ship replica.
