You’ll find De Spuyt on a stone’s throw distance from the tram stops that are announced as the place to get off for the “entertainment area”. This tiny, cosy cafe is an alternative little shelter in the storm of the flashy commercialism that defines much of the area around Leidseplein. Whereas most of the surrounding low end pizza places thrive on the sales of the regular pilseners, De Spuyt offers a wide range of quality beers. A chalkboard covering almost half of a wall lists more than a 100 beers, 6 of which on tap. There’s often something local there. You might find find the limited numbers of seats insides already taken. If not, you’re in for a living room experience with a knowledgable bartender as your kind host.
